Toni Mulgrew became a Lifetime Board Member in 2003 after a long, active contribution to Toronto’s co-op housing sector.
Toni was one of the driving forces behind getting Thurlstone Co-operative off the ground. Thurlstone is the first housing co-op in Scarborough and is made up of former rental buildings. Mulgrew chaired its membership committee, an important role in ensuring a community that shares the values set out in the co-operative principles. Mulgrew also lived in Longview Housing Co-op.
She sat on CHFT’s board, worked in development at Lantana, one of the co-op development resource groups, and was a co-op co-ordinator. She finished her career at the City of Toronto.
Toni was quoted in her October 2014 obituary as saying:
I had the privilege of making a difference in the work I do. I have always believed that decent affordable housing was a right that everyone deserved.
Words to live by. We are proud she was one of ours.
