Maintenance Worker – Clintwood Non-Profit Housing Co-operative

Clintwood Non-Profit Housing Co-operative provides affordable housing to 110 members and their children.  Our mission is to have well maintained homes for all members so that they can enjoy their homes.

We are looking for a Maintenance Worker in order to complete the work orders that come in from members as well as those on file.  The worker will also assist in supervising the maintenance assistant. The successful applicant will need to be able to complete general carpentry, basic electrical repairs and some basic plumbing.

Job duties:

  • Routine and preventative maintenance – carry out preventative maintenance and other routine maintenance tasks according to schedules and work orders;
  • Perform general carpentry tasks as required such as replacing doors, door casings, baseboards, countertops and remove/install flooring;
  • Perform drywall repairs including mudding;
  • Use a variety of hand and power tools;
  • Prepare, paint and decorate interior and exterior surfaces as required such as painting units during turn overs;
  • Operate grounds-keeping power equipment and maintain said equipment;
  • Troubleshoot, install and repair various electrical components (i.e. switches, receptacles) and plumbing fixtures (i.e. sinks, taps, shut off valves) , piping (water pipes leaking) and related equipment;
  • Troubleshoot issues with appliances
  • Handle maintenance emergencies during office hours;
  • Any other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5+ years relevant work experience or a licensed trade certificate (Ontario certificate of qualification) in either plumbing, electrical, carpentry or HVAC;
  • Highly motivated with the ability to work independently;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite);
  • Knowledge of NewViews Maintenance Module an asset but not required;
  • Knowledge of building and fire codes;
  • Ability to comprehend and communicate detailed instructions orally and in writing;
  • Ability to multi-task and establish priorities;
  • Ability to perform minor repair work;
  • Strong communication and problem solving skills;
  • Ability to create alternative solutions to problems;
  • Excellent time management;
  • Ability to work well under pressure;
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Construction project management with experience with Capital projects and managing sub-contractors considered an asset;
  • Experience with workplace health and safety considered an asset;
  • Working at Heights and WHMIS certificates with proof required;
  • Proof of certificate of qualifications if applying as a licensed tradesperson

Work Conditions:

  • 40 hours per week – Monday to Friday 8 am – 4 pm (10 hour days can also be negotiated);
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds;
  • Safety boots required;
  • Work both indoors and outdoors.
