Property Maintenance Worker/ Cleaner

Birmingham Homes Co-op is currently seeking to fill a maintenance position which is a one year, full time (24h/week) contract (with possibility for extension), for a 50 unit co-operative housing complex.

The Property Maintenance Worker/Cleaner provides support to the Housing Co-ordinator/Manager by maintaining service records, tracking costs and allocating expenses, and working with/supervising contractors on-site. The Property Maintenance Worker/Cleaner will ensure proactive care to all exterior and interior areas, while maintaining a high standard of confidentiality, security and safety. The Property Maintenance Worker/Cleaner preforms repairs and preventative maintenance, and cleaning duties as required. The Property Maintenance Worker/Cleaner must follow policies, procedures and by-laws of co-op. The Property Maintenance Worker/Cleaner reports to the Housing Co-ordinator/Manager and Staff Liaison Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in residential maintenance, general knowledge of working in non-profit housing
  • Knowledge of building code requirements, fire codes, health and safety, AODA, WSIB
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and general maintenance
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written commination, basic computer literacy
  • Must be able to work independently, and in a team environment
  • Ability to climb heights using ladder
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Ability to prioritize
  • Ability to take direction
  • Must have a clear PCR (criminal and vulnerable reference check)
  • CPR/ first aid certification is an asset

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Unit and common area repair and maintenance, including the completion of work orders, liaising with contractors, co-ordinating move in/move out procedures and repairs
  • Maintain confidentiality of members, staff and co-op business
  • Complete annual unit inspections and property inspections
  • Garbage and recycling management and maintenance including co-ordinating garbage and recycling pick up and removal by City, proper disposal of hazardous materials
  • Ensure compliance with Fire Code regulations and the Co-op’s Fire Safety Plans including but not limited to testing of fire alarms, sprinkler systems, emergency power and voice alarm systems
  • On-call for after-hours emergencies
  • Lead maintenance committee
  • Other cleaning and maintenance duties, including basic landscaping
  • Document outcomes of work orders, submit monthly maintenance reports
  • Other duties as assigned

Salary will commensurate with experience. Six (6) months probationary period. Criminal and Vulnerable reference check to be completed.
